Associate of Applied Science: Veterinary Technology (188)



The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Veterinary Technology prepares graduates for careers in the field of veterinary technology. Graduates are prepared for employment in many settings such as private veterinary practices, research facilities, pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic laboratories, zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, state and federal agencies, veterinary teaching hospitals, and specialty and emergency practices.


Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Veterinary Technology program. Entrance requirements for this program include completion of ENG 111; completion of CHM 110, and VPT placement into MTH 154 with no co-requisite required or successful completion of an equivalent or higher level college math class; a college and a Veterinary


Technology application, animal experience, and letters of recommendation. Detailed information regarding the admission criteria, selection process, etc. can be found in the Veterinary Technology Admissions Procedures and Information Booklet, which can be reviewed or downloaded from the tcc.edu website. Qualified candidates will be granted an interview based on the number and quality of applicants. Participation in an orientation session is mandatory. Official transcripts from other colleges attended must be submitted to the Office of the College Registrar at Tidewater Community College prior to the application deadline. The Veterinary Technology program has received initial accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Graduates are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination and become a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
